Most good art is made out of love and a personal commitment to some subject. I’ve never made art that is quite so explicitly political. But I choose my subject matter from the heart and this thing has moved me. This work is the answer to two questions: What is meaningful to me? Can my work connect me to my dearest hopes? In the Northampton Vigil all the people are tiny portraits of the Northampton peace activists who stand ‘on the line’ every Saturday and for so many years. It interests me that strong committed individuals can light a fire that spreads.
